A government funded mentoring programme connecting aspiring entrepreneurs to expert business advisors.

When you join the Start Smart programme, you will be assigned a business advisor to give you free independent advice about setting up and how to be self-employed successfully.

We offer a variety of workshops on the Start Smart programme including:

Business Planning, Cash flow, Social Media, Bookkeeping, Marketing. Read the descriptions and see what you find useful.

Business Planning
This webinar will provide you with the confidence and knowledge to start to develop your business plan, it will look at: •Why you wish to be self employed and the issues you need to be aware of; • The legalities of setting up a business such as whether to be a Sole Trader or Limited Company •We look at the importance of Market research and understanding your target customer •A brief understanding of Tax and NI will be provided so you are able to start to plan your business and complete a business plan with confidence
Marketing
On this webinar you will be looking to improve your confidence/knowledge/skills in relation to: •Understand how to carry out market research •How to identify your core customers •Realise the importance of branding & image •Explore general marketing principles and the selling principles so you will become more focused on the marketing of your business and generate income
Bookkeeping
On this webinar we will be looking to improve your confidence/knowledge/skills in relation to. • Understanding and implementing a Bookkeeping system • The importance of having a bookkeeping system • Understanding Tax & NI and how this applies to your business • How to complete a cash book system and what a self assessment looks like, ready for when you start to trade your business
Cash flow
On this webinar you will be looking to improve your confidence/knowledge/skills in relation to. •Forecasting your cash flow for the next 12 months •How to calculate cash flow targets for your business •How to calculate your break even point, and other cash flow calculations You will be able to produce a cash flow forecast for your business to assist in the launch, growth and any financial applications.
Social Media
Attending this webinar you will get an overview/knowledge and confidence in relation to; • Social Media and having an online presence for your business • Understand the benefits and risk of being on Social Media • Gain an understanding on how Social Media applications are use to enhance your business, reach your core target customer group and increase your interactions and sales.

1. Be a resident of Greater Manchester.
